Educational charity seeks budding young engineers!

29/11/2012

Independent educational charity The Smallpeice Trust has launched its new 2013 course timetable and is now seeking hundreds of 12 to 17 year old students to sample their taster engineering courses. Any student can apply to attend a wide range of subsidised residential courses which take place at universities nationwide. Subjects include Electronic Engineering, High Speed Communications, Marine Technology, Mobile Communications, Nuclear Engineering, and Structural Engineering. These are designed to attract students that have an interest or natural flair in Science, Maths, Design or Technology to consider a career in engineering.

The Smallpeice Trust will run an inspiring Low Carbon Energy Challenge for fifty 15 and 16 year old students (Year 11) taking place at Newcastle University from 22nd to 25th July.  Sponsored by Senergy, a global energy services company, this course introduces students to energy engineering through thought-provoking master classes and question-and-answer sessions with leading engineering professionals.

During the course students will discover the sources of natural power and how ever more sophisticated levels of technology could improve mankind’s quality of life.  Students will have the opportunity to make full use of the university’s state-of-the-art research facilities, including wave tanks and energy capture devices to conduct tests and experiments while learning about the different forms of energy in the environment.

Role-model engineering graduates will be on hand to offer support and guidance, giving students a greater understanding of the subject and the wide range of career prospects that can be explored.

All Smallpeice courses are linked to the National Curriculum and are designed to improve core skills such as team building, financial management, communication and problem solving. By attending one of our courses students will gain experience of university and working life that will accelerate their personal development and their potential for greater academic achievement.

The Low Carbon Energy Challenge course, costs £225 for 4-days full board, all course materials and supervised social activities. Course information and application forms can be accessed from www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk.  Interested students are advised to apply early, as applications will be reviewed and places allocated on a first come, first served basis.
