Senergy secures government contract for key North Sea studies

26/06/2012

Global provider of diversified energy services, Senergy, has been awarded a framework agreement with contracts up to £1.8 million by the UK government to examine ways of prolonging the production life of the North Sea oil and gas industry.

The three-year project, which is already underway will support the work of the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as it seeks to secure maximum recovery from existing oil and gas developments as well as the exploration of opportunities to access new reserves in technically challenging fields.

Les Coats, Senergy’s general manager Europe, said: “This is a key piece of work in terms of prolonging the life of the UK North Sea and we’re delighted that Senergy has been given the opportunity to fulfil such a strategic role.

“We will be drawing upon a variety of our technical and professional disciplines within Senergy to meet the remit of the contract and provide a detailed assessment of the challenges and opportunities as they exist.

“This agreement comes on the back of an initial three-year contract with the government, which also involved looking at enhanced oil recovery, and we believe this latest award underlines the fact we are providing a quality service to DECC.

“This project has extra significance given the popular belief that we are at a critical point in terms of deciding which direction the North Sea industry now needs to take to ensure its long-term future.”
The contract will see Senergy assess the most effective ways of maximising economic hydrocarbon recovery from the UKCS via proper stewardship of existing fields and the deployment of the latest technology for new field developments.

Others will be directed towards wider, regional studies to evaluate the potential of unexplored areas or discoveries that have to date proved difficult to develop.
