Alternative Energy Solutions
By 2030, the world’s energy demands will have increased by 60%. Over the past 40 years, investment in the North Sea has been £220 billion so, to meet the new demands, 12 times that amount will be needed.
As part of our response to that situation, we embrace the need for reduced carbon energy solutions. Senergy Alternative Energy has a clear strategy to deliver environmentally friendly energy both domestically and internationally. We will pursue opportunities across the alternative energy spectrum, including Carbon Capture & Storage, Geothermal and Wind Energy, and potentially Coalbed Methane.
Changing Attitudes Towards Energy Efficiency
As earth scientists we are well aware of the effects of heightened levels of greenhouse gases on the world’s environment, and the depletion of finite resources. We believe there is an urgent need for changes in attitude and practice.
Our commitment to energy efficiency and conservation is a cornerstone of Senergy’s corporate vision.
Our Contribution - To the planet
Green Travel
Contrary to common practice, Senergy does not award large company cars to senior staff members. Indeed, we don’t support any type of company car scheme. But we do help staff to acquire high-spec bicycles.
In 2006, we launched the Green Transport Initiative (GTI), which rewards staff for their efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of journeys to work. Its objectives are:
- To reduce Senergy’s carbon footprint & its contribution to traffic congestion
- To support staff in adopting more environmentally friendly habits
- To reduce Senergy’s use of a finite resource (oil)
- To increase the health and wellbeing of Senergy staff
Those who participate in the scheme earn points for using environmentally friendly travel methods paid in the form of shopping vouchers. This has led to a 100% increase in cycle usage since the GTI was introduced. By encouraging colleagues to think about their carbon footprint, we can help them to make small but lasting changes to their habits.

Geothermal Heating and Energy Conservation
Senergy is using forward-looking energy methods in the new office building in Banchory; geothermal heating and rainwater harvesting are stimulating widespread local interest. Leading by example, we can encourage the
wider community to look beyond the
more obvious solutions to the challenges of energy use and conservation.
We’re also reducing conventional energy usage, and conserving both water and paper.
Since 2002, water usage is down by 37% and paper usage by 50%.
